It’s been quite a week for everyone connected with Scotland, but especially for Celtic hero Kieran Tierney.

In an incredible 4-2 win against Denmark on Tuesday, Tierney’s stunning hit put Scotland ahead in the 93rd minute of the thriller.

This was quickly followed up by Kenny McLean scoring from his own half, as Scotland booked their place at a first World Cup of the 21st century.

Very little work was done in the nation on Wednesday, after a night of celebrations that were a generation in the making.

And after he met the media outside the team hotel on Wednesday, one journalist offered Tierney a classic hangover cure, which he gladly accepted.

Tierney doesn’t score many, making his dramatic winner all the more special.

It was a fantastic hit too, bending into the far corner, well out of Kasper Schmeichel’s reach.

Tierney was just one year old when Scotland last played at a World Cup in France in 1998.

He and his Scotland teammates will have celebrated long into the night, and this was recognised in his interview on Wednesday.

The hangover cure? A glass bottle of original recipe Irn Bru.

Tierney’s goal was just his second goal for Scotland, with the first coming against Poland at Hampden three years ago.

He recently earned his 50th cap for his country, and had it not been for injury issues, that number would be a fair bit higher.

In a remarkable coincidence, Tierney made his debut as an 18-year-old… against Denmark at Hampden.

Should Steve Clarke ask Celtic captain Callum McGregor to revoke his Scotland retirement for the 2026 World Cup?

Tierney and Anthony Ralston are in the Scotland squad which earned a place at the tournament. Both are regular features in the squad for Steve Clarke.

It was a memorable week for Johnny Kenny too, as he made his Ireland debut in another incredibly dramatic win which kept their hopes of qualification alive.

Sebastian Tounekti’s Tunisia are heading to North America too, as are Daizen Maeda’s Japan.

Auston Trusty did his hopes of playing in a home World Cup for the USA no harm at all by playing the whole 90 minutes in a 5-1 win over Uruguay.
