Former Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard has hit out at Ruud van Nistelrooy for the way he was treated while at Leicester City.
Edouard joined Leicester on loan for the 2024/25 season but was never given a chance as the Foxes were relegated from the Premier League.
The Frenchman was signed by Steve Cooper, who was then replaced by Van Nistelrooy. He didn’t seem to rate the forward and Edouard only made the bench once before being cast aside.
Now, the 27-year-old has made his feelings very clear.

Odsonne Edouard says Ruud van Nistelrooy was ‘not a great coach’
Under Van Nistelrooy’s watch, Leicester became the first side in Premier League history to go nine home games in a row without scoring and unsurprisingly, Edouard wasn’t a fan of the Dutchman’s style.
He told L’Equipe: “Being a great striker doesn’t necessarily mean being a great coach.
“At the beginning, I played a little [under Steve Cooper], then things didn’t work out with Van Nistelrooy.
“I didn’t get along well with Van Nistelrooy. I found myself blocked for seven months without playing.”
Odsonne Edouard thrives while Van Nistelrooy struggles
Both left the Foxes in the summer and are now following very different paths.
After returning to France, Edouard has been scoring goals for Lens and has three goals from his last six games.
They are also enjoying a strong season domestically and sit second in the Ligue 1 table, one point behind reigning champions and Champions League holders Paris Saint-Germain.
As for Van Nistelrooy, the Manchester United legend is still out of work and looking for his next steps in management and doesn’t seem any closer to returning to the dugout.
