Stiliyan Petrov is proving to be one of the best Celtic pundits in the game right now, after a number of appearances on BT Sport and Celtic TV.
The former midfielder remains a hero with the Celtic support for his performances on the pitch and coming through his trials off of it.
That made it all the more bizarre when Charlie Nicholas, a pundit not too popular with many Celtic fans, fired at out at Petrov on Twitter for being included in BT’s coverage of the Real Betis match last month.
Petrov was included at the last moment after Rangers barred Chris Sutton and Neil Lennon. Nicholas suggested that the Bulgarian didn’t know enough about the current Celtic team to justify being given the gig.
However when asked about it by The Celtic Way, Petrov gave about as classy a response as you can get, stating: “I respect everyone, if I ended up like that I wouldn’t be true to myself.”
The 42-year-old is refusing to stoop to Nicholas’ level and is all the better for it.
Contrary to the former Sky Sports man’s belief, Petrov is in Glasgow a lot and clearly regularly watches Ange Postecoglou’s team given his on-air analysis.
Unlike Nicholas, he isn’t bashing Celtic and Celtic players all over the media either.
I doubt Charlie will be a go-to pundit for any TV broadcaster in the near future so he might have to put up with likes of Petrov for quite a while.
In other news, Kenny Dalglish pins the blame on rivals as he calls for stance on Celtic to change.
