Celtic hero Scott Brown piles onto Kris Boyd’s Rangers pain with superb Flag Day wind-up on Sky Sports

Scott Brown was notorious for his wind-ups when he was a Celtic player.

Now a pundit and manager of Ayr United, Brown looks like he plans to carry that on, especially when the opportunity presented itself to wind up Kris Boyd on Sky Sports this afternoon.

Brown was asked by Eilidh Barbour what flag day means for a player, and the former Celtic captain wasted no time in taking aim at Boyd who was still smarting over Rangers’ draw with Motherwell yesterday afternoon.

And preparing for another Celtic Park afternoon full of celebrations, Boyd was the butt of a Broony wind-up which makes a change from the Rangers-leaning pundit being targeted by Chris Sutton.

Scott Brown takes aim at Kris Boyd inside Celtic Park over Flag Day celebrations

Celtic face St Mirren to open up the new season on Flag Day. And as the club and fans prepare for Paul McStay to unfurl the title-winning flag, Brown could not resist this double dig at Boyd.

Brown told Sky Sports, “It’s one of those days where it’s great for the fans, it’s great for everyone to come together.

“And see Cal walking up Celtic Way is a phenomenal thing and Boydy is not used to this in, obviously, a long, long time.

“He’s delighted to be here and we’ve had a really good chat about how good this place is and how much it means to you as well, haven’t we?”

Boyd: “It’s nice to see you’ve not changed you’ve not stopped talking rubbish have you?”

Kris Boyd’s comments on Celtic hero Ange Postecoglou after Rangers’ Motherwell draw

Boyd was in pain yesterday at Rangers’ draw with Motherwell. His predictable league title prediction now looks a bit silly after yesterday’s draw at Fir Park.

But it was what Boyd said about Celtic hero Ange Postecoglou after the result that really sparked our interest.

Boyd said, “You can’t affect what has happened in the past,” said Boyd. “But today, looking at it, Rangers have a lot of work to do – the second half was nowhere near good enough.

“You go back to Ange Postecoglou, and I am not comparing it to him, in terms of the pace in the wide areas that he had.

“When you are playing this style of football, and you have your two wide players playing the way they are, and you are trying to take them from one side to the other. You have got to have players willing to run without the ball. Rangers, right now, there is no pace in the wide areas.

“I think Russell Martin made the point there, European and Celtic games are fine for these players to get up for. The last thing Rangers need is for these new players coming in and then bombing into the culture that has been here for a long time.”

It’s only the first weekend of the new season and Celtic fans have already witnessed a Kris Boyd meltdown.

Let’s hope there is another one this afternoon when Celtic take care of St Mirren.
