Celtic star Luis Palma was one of the stars of the show for Honduras overnight as he produced an effective display to help beat Mexico in the first leg of their CONCACAF Nations League quarter-final.
Palma followed up his superb showing against Aberdeen with an assist on the night, setting up Anthony Lozano with a beautiful ball forward for the first goal in a 2-0 victory.
Starting on the left flank for his country, Palma gave Mexico right-back Jorge Sanchez a torrid time throughout the 90 minutes, with fans on social media noting the one-sided nature of the tussle.
There was also a funny moment in the 41st minute when the Celtic star nutmegged Sanchez, completely embarrassing him. The Porto defender was left annoyed by the incident and lashed out with his arm, drawing a yellow card.
The moment is making headlines in Honduras [La Prensa], while other Spanish-language football outlets are raving about the Celtic attacker.
Express Futbol noted he was the ‘MVP’ of the Honduran win over Mexico and said Sanchez simply had no answers to the problems caused by the 23-year-old.
Invictos, meanwhile, enthused about Palma to their over one million followers on social media, describing him as a standout and labelling his assist for Lozano as ‘spectacular’.
Mexico are ranked 12th in the world by FIFA, while Honduras are down in 78th, so the 2-0 win was a big moment for Palma and his country.
They now have the chance to finish the job and see through their 2-0 aggregate advantage with a trip to Mexico in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
It would be fantastic if everyone were talking about Palma’s contributions once again.
In other news, Liam Scales could land big Celtic reward for recent form.
