Celtic hit with another double UEFA punishment and a ‘slap on the wrist’ for Brendan Rodgers

Celtic have been hit with another two UEFA fines this season as the club’s relationship with European football’s governing body continues to deteriorate.

Brendan Rodgers has got Celtic playing some pretty good football as the Parkhead club are now on the cusp of qualification from the league phase.

Two wins, two draws and just a single defeat have Celtic in the Champions League driving seat but despite that, the Hoops have just felt the disciplinary hand of UEFA for incidents in the games against RB Leipzig and Atalanta.

No strangers to fines from the European governing body this season, in the Bhoys’ defeat to Borussia Dortmund the Celtic was punished by UEFA for the use of pyro and hit with a €20,000 fine.

Now, according to the Daily Record, Celtic have been sent a bill for a total of €27,000 (£22,383) which takes the total sum of fines paid to UEFA to £198,960.

€12,000 was for the blocking of public passageways and €15,000 was for the young pitch invader who ran to Kasper Schmeichel in Celtic’s win over RB Leipzig.

UEFA also gave Brendan Rodgers a ‘slap on the wrist’ for two incidents in Celtic’s draw with Atalanta where delaying the kick-off was said to have been the fault of the Parkhead club and manager.

The six UEFA members who have suffered harsher punishments than Celtic this season

UEFA are clearly taking a hardline stance with clubs this season over discipline issues with the use of pyro being top of the list for the governing body.

Celtic have been hit with a suspended sentence for selling tickets to away fans for the use of pyro but this is nothing compared to six other members who have been hit much worse this season from UEFA.

Last season UEFA hit CSKA Sofia, Hammarby, FC Shkupi, Nantes and FK Iskra Danilovgrad all with partial stadium closures with Sivasspor Kulübü another club forced to play a match behind closed doors.

So it’s clear UEFA have history of getting tough with clubs and it seems that is carrying on to this season too.
