Former Celtic star Scott Brown is getting much more satisfaction out of coaching a team rather than trying to forge a career in punditry upon retirement.
Brown is a massive figure in Scottish football and effectively dominated the domestic scene for close to a decade as captain of the Bhoys.
High-profile media offers would surely have been available to him had he wanted to pursue that side of post-retirement, but he’s explained why he hasn’t gone down the Kris Boyd route.

Speaking to Sky Sports as part of tomorrow’s match coverage at Rugby Park, Brown said: “I’d have had to get my teeth done, like Boydy did. Nah, Boydy’s brilliant on the telly, he knows the game inside out, especially the Scottish game. He deserves it, he’s a great lad, we got on really well.
“For me, what I wanted to do going down the line was always become a coach – I’ve done the punditry a couple of times. I get more love, more enjoyment out of being on the field and seeing the lads and being there on a matchday and prepping.
“It was the right time for me to do this and I couldn’t have started at a better club. For us it’s about growing the club and trying to get as high up the table as we possibly can.”
Brown has long been preparing for an opportunity like this. For me, he was always far more professional and committed to process, winning and success than Boyd ever was – despite the latter’s penchant for poaching goals.
It’s a natural fit for him to have a good go at management, and in the interview with Sky he appears perfectly at peace, talking about Fleetwood’s community efforts and loving life away from the Glasgow goldfish bowl.
It’s always brave to take the big step into management and credit to the Celtic icon for launching himself right into the unpredictability of the English lower leagues.
