Celtic stars Odsonne Edouard and Nir Bitton are both closing in on a return to action, Neil Lennon has told The Daily Record this weekend.
The manager is under increasing pressure to turn performances and results around but has been hampered by several injuries and fitness issues with multiple key issues.
Edouard, Bitton and Hatem Abd Elhamed all tested positive for COVID-19 while on international duty, meanwhile others such as James Forrest, Vasilis Barkas and Christopher Jullien are injured.
Lennon has now provided an update on the former three, as well as Forrest.
As quoted by The Daily Record, he said: “Elhamed is back in the country on Monday and will go through the screening and cardiac tests. We may not see him for another week.
“Bitton has done a bit of work with the physios and hopefully he’ll be available for Thursday. Edouard probably won’t make Aberdeen but should be OK for Lille.
“Forrest is out of his boot so he has to have another scan, which will give us an indication. Again, he’ll be out for at least a few weeks.”
Edouard and Bitton both potentially returning for the trip to Lille could be crucial.
The Israeli international was arguably our best performing defender before the recent break. He can perhaps replace the faltering Shane Duffy, who is struggling in the starting eleven right now.
Edouard’s return speaks for itself, given his quality. He hasn’t set the world alight so far this season, but you’d fancy him to be up for impressing in his homeland.
If Lennon is to find a positive way forward, he needs all these players back and available for selection.
It can’t come soon enough.
