Celtic will once again have representation in the latest edition of Masters Football this year following 2023’s tournament at Braehead Arena.

The indoor six-a-side competition was initially popular in the early 2000s and has recently undergone a revival. The Bhoys have fielded a team for two consecutive years since its re-inception.

Last year, Celtic claimed the trophy with a side consisting of Mark Wilson, Kelvin Wilson, Joe Ledley, Simon Donnelly, Kris Commons, Dorus de Vries, Mark Burchill and Gary Hooper.

On their run that resulted in glory, we took care of Heart of Midlothian in the group stages and Hibernian in the final.

However, the highlight was surely our 3-2 victory over Rangers, where Hooper and Ledley got in on the act to secure the bragging rights over our rivals.

Now, news has come to light surrounding the 2024 tournament, which will take place on Thursday, November 14th, 2024. Celtic will be pitted against Rangers, Aberdeen, and Dundee United, marking a slight change from last year.

Venue change in Masters Football announcement involving Celtic

If you didn’t notice, this year’s edition of Masters Football has been moved to Aberdeen’s P&J indoor arena rather than taking place at Braehead.

Tickets for the occasion will go on sale on March 29th at 10 a.m. The venue change will be a main talking point, although it isn’t exactly surprising, given some of the noticeable problems surrounding the pitch last year.

For now, Celtic haven’t announced their squad; however, Stiliyan Petrov has been named as our captain, which is bound to generate excitement among supporters.

Further announcements are set to be made in due course, and hopefully, we can field a strong side full of heroes from the past that can add to an entertaining occasion in the North East.
