Celtic launch fresh winger move but there’s less encouraging news about Podence and Fraser

Celtic have launched a move for winger Luis Palma while there are hurdles to overcome in the chase for Daniel Podence and Ryan Fraser, according to a report.

The Daily Mail‘s Stephen McGowan delivered a much-needed transfer update late on Wednesday with the transfer window about to enter its final week.

Celtic have signed six first-team players, not including Tomoki Iwata’s mandatory transfer, so far this summer. However, the reality is that we need more first-team ready recruits before the September 1 deadline.

McGowan’s Wednesday report saw a new name enter the fray in the shape of Aris Thessaloniki’s winger Palma.

Not too much information was given about the 23-year-old. However, a £3.5m valuation was mentioned for the Honduras international who has also apparently interested Rangers this summer.

Palma netted 11 league goals for Aris last season, with plenty more assists also arriving. He looks to have decent pedigree although some supporters may be concerned that he appears to be another project-like target.

Premier League duo Podence and Fraser were also mentioned in the report, although the update wasn’t wholly encouraging.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, McGowan says that wages are “an obstacle” in the club’s move for both players.

Given the immense pay packets on offer down south, you would assume that both would have to take wage cuts to sign deals in Glasgow. But Celtic can still offer healthy contracts, and we also have the lure of Champions League football to throw in to the bargain.

Regardless of the club’s transfer strategy, the reality is that we need a bit of star power in the closing days of the window.

Podence seems to offer that. If there’s a deal there to be done then we need to make it happen.
