Celtic-linked youngsters Brenden Aaronson and Mark McKenzie starred last night as Philadelphia Union powered to a 3-0 victory at New York Red Bulls.

Aaronson opened the scoring with a terrific strike from outside the penalty area, whilst McKenzie managed to keep a third clean sheet in five games alongside centre-back partner Jakob Glesnes.

Youngster Aaronson has been linked to a host of sides around Europe including the Hoops (Daily Record). Celtic have meanwhile asked to be kept informed of developments surrounding McKenzie (Sky Sports).

And if any Parkhead scouts were watching last night, they’ll have been impressed with Aaronson’s opener. Picking up the ball outside the New York penalty area, the attacking midfielder arrowed a superb strike in off the post. Here’s a look for those who haven’t seen it:

Stat-tracking website WhoScored also marked both men extremely highly for their performances. Aaronson managed a score of 7.52 for his display, whilst McKenzie bagged a 7.48 mark to go with his clean sheet.

Both men would add strength to Parkhead depth

Aaronson would provide genuine quality for Celtic in the number 10 role and would provide the perfect rival for Ryan Christie. With just under 70 appearances to his name and a USA cap, there’s plenty to like about the attacker (Transfermarkt).

However, a deal could be difficult to do for the American youngster. The likes of Borussia Dortmund, Monchengladbach, and Hoffenheim have all been linked with a move for him (Goal).

McKenzie, however, could be easier to obtain. Also capped at international level, the centre-back has openly stated that he wants to move to Europe to continue his development.

Celtic could provide him with the chance to showcase his skills in European competitions as well as potentially give him a path to the English Premier League should he impress. Such is the Hoops’ history in selling their best young talents on, that has to be tempting for a player like McKenzie.

Granted, neither the number 10 or centre-back positions are a big concern at the moment. Celtic have sufficient cover for both (providing Tom Rogic can stay injury-free this season).

But if either McKenzie or Aaronson are looking to move on anytime soon, the Hoops should be all over it after another impressive showing from the duo last night.
