Celtic loan star Marcelo Saracchi avoids Uruguay World Cup chaos, as Marcelo Bielsa loses it

One Celtic player who was unlucky not to be selected for this summer’s World Cup was Marcelo Saracchi.

The Boca Juniors star had enjoyed a successful loan spell at Celtic, winning the domestic double, including a game-changing impact from the bench against Hearts on the final day of the season.

You even had a situation where, last October, Saracchi captained Uruguay to victory over DR Congo.

However, weeks before the start of the 2026 World Cup, Marcelo Bielsa opted against selecting Saracchi, but he can count his lucky stars because he has avoided a chaotic group stage exit for his nation.

Name your figure to bring Saracchi to Celtic…

Marcelo Bielsa loses control as Uruguay suffer World Cup exit

Saracchi will be wondering how he didn’t make this Uruguay squad because this was a mitigating disaster.

Even before the World Cup started, there were issues between Bielsa and the players, as it all showcased itself on the pitch.

Placed in Group H with Spain, Saudi Arabia, and Cape Verde, Uruguay crashed out of the tournament in third place with a mere two points, left to watch as the underdogs from Cape Verde marched on to the knockouts.

After Uruguay’s World Cup exit was confirmed, Bielsa couldn’t hold his emotions post-match, as you can see from the video below, as posted by the BBC.

Return to Celtic, get back into the Uruguay squad…

Someone like Saracchi has probably benefited from this because he hasn’t been involved in this utter mess, which also resulted in Bielsa’s breakdown of his relationship with many of his star players.

Saracchi should return to Celtic this summer, that’s if they put the money down for his services, rather than penny-pinching and only wanting to bring him back on loan.

Regular minutes will firmly put the all-action left-back on his nation’s radar again.

By the time Uruguay brings in a new coach, and you should expect Bielsa to leave pretty soon, Saracchi’s form should, hopefully, speak for itself in securing a recall to the national side.
