Gustaf Lagerbielke has been impressing out on loan at FC Twente, but may not be rewarded with a European spot.

The Celtic loanee joined the Eredivisie side at the start of the season after looking like he had not future in the Hoops’ first-team.

Lagerbielke has been a key player for the Dutch side, featuring 30 times in all competitions, including eight games in the Europa League.

FC Twente are once again challenging for the European places, specifically the top four spot, but could miss out after a poor result on Thursday night.

Celtic loanee involved in FC Twente’s defeat against PSV

With no room for error, Twente hosted PSV Eindhoven on Thursday night but were beaten 3-1 at home.

It was a poor result Lagerbielke and his teammates, who are now fifth in the table and 11 points behind Utrecht, who occupy that coveted fourth spot.

Defeat means the 25-year-old will likely have to contend with appearing in the play-offs to secure a place in the 25/26 Conference League.

A fifth place finish will automatically confirm a spot in the Conference League play-off qualifier rounds.

Where will Gustaf Lagerbielke be next season?

It’s pretty obvious that Lagerbielke is one of those who needs to leave Celtic.

Despite being signed by Brendan Rodgers, he’s been fifth-choice at best and needs to move on.

Twente have no idea if they can sign Lagerbielke permanently and his performances in the Netherlands will no doubt have some clubs interested in his services.
