Celtic midfielder Ismaila Soro’s disappointing start to life out on loan has continued after he was sent off in Arouca’s 2-1 loss against Boavista.

The 24-year-old completed his exit from Parkhead in the summer, joining the top-flight Portuguese side on a season-long loan deal.

Despite making a positive impression at Celtic during the 2020/21 season, Soro failed to break into Ange Postecoglou’s plans.

The Ivorian featured during the early stages of the 57-year-old’s tenure in charge but was quickly displaced in the Celtic midfield.

With his lack of appearances, it became evident that Soro had no future at Celtic Park, and he was likely to be one of the players Postecoglou would look to get rid of this summer.

In early July, the former Socceroos boss did exactly that, sanctioning a season-long loan move to FC Arouca, which also included an option to buy in just under 12 months’ time.

So far, the midfielder has made six appearances for his loan side. But, it hasn’t been the ideal start to life in Portugal for Soro.

Picking up two wins, a draw and three losses in those games, Arouca currently sit in 12th place, three points above the relegation zone.

From a personal point of view, Soro has already received a card in half of his appearances, which seemed to be a common theme towards the back end of his time at Celtic.

On Sunday evening, Soro received an early blow to new life at his loan club after he was sent off just 10 minutes into Arouca’s 2-1 loss against Boavista.

Soro now has the task of fighting his way back into Arouca side and earning permanent move.

For many Celtic fans, the inclusion of the option to buy in this loan deal all but confirmed that Soro has no future at Parkhead, even if he has a positive loan spell.

So, the midfielder will have gone to Portugal looking to make a good impression right from the off.

His side haven’t made a bad start to the new league campaign. But, Soro already finds himself in a bit of a tricky situation, where he might have to be fighting to get back into the side after his red card.

Whilst, for some, the sending-off may have been a little harsh, the Ivory Coast internationalist clearly still has the tendency of picking up a booking.

When he returns from suspension, it is up to Soro to get back to his best form and prove to his current club why they should make the deal permanent next summer.
