Celtic have made enquiries for two centre-backs with Carl Starfelt’s departure from the club nearing.
The Swedish central-defender is set to join Spanish side Celta Vigo after spending two successful years in Glasgow.
Celtic will still have Cameron Carter-Vickers, Maik Nawrocki, Stephen Welsh, Yuki Kobayashi and Liam Scales on their books, but questions remain over the latter three’s first-team viability.
Brendan Rodgers made it clear at the weekend that the club would re-enter the transfer market if Starfelt moved on, and it seems like they’re wasting no time.
Last night, it was reported in Sweden that we had bid for IF Elfsborg defender Gustaf Lagerbielke. That move seems like a goer, but now we’ve had another name thrown into the mix. And it’s one we’ve heard before.
Sky Sports journalist Anthony Joseph tweeted on Tuesday morning to say: “Celtic have made enquiries for two centre-backs as they look to replace Carl Starfelt.

“It’s understood enquiries have been made for Elfsborg’s Gustaf Lagerbielke and Volendam’s Xavier Mbuyamba.
“Reports in Sweden suggest Celtic are further down the line with Lagerbielke.”
Last month, it was reported that Mbuyamba was “high on a list” of Celtic targets, so the report isn’t a massive shock. (Daily Mail)

The question that may now be on some Celtic supporters lips is whether the club are looking to bring in both Lagerbielke and Mbuyamba, or whether it’s one or the other.
The coming days and weeks should spell that out.
