Celtic’s contingent involved at international tournaments this summer has now come to an end after the completion of Euro 2024 and Copa America.

Spain’s victory in Berlin brought joy to the Scottish people; meanwhile, Canada’s emergence at Copa America became one of the tournament’s surprises under Jesse Marsch.

Alistair Johnston featured in every game for Les Rouges, helping them reach the last four before Uruguay pipped them to third place over the weekend on penalties.

Brendan Rodgers has let it be known that the former CF Montreal man will have a breather over the Bhoys’ three-match tour of the United States. Given that his season has technically only ended just now, this seems like the only fair course of action.

Either way, Johnston appears to be raring to go for the new campaign as he prepares for a return to Celtic after some well-deserved rest.

Alistair Johntson takes to Instagram

Taking to Instagram, Johnston has thanked the Canadian support for their love this summer, indicating he will take some time to recuperate before returning to Celtic action raring to go.

Accompanying the chosen picture below, his caption read: “Thank you for all the support this summer Canada. A bit of rest now and then we go again.”

Johnston should be commended for his efforts this summer. Nobody expected Canada to put themselves into contention to win the tournament, and they are set to be a force over the coming years on the international scene.

Nevertheless, from a Celtic standpoint, it is refreshing to see that both tournaments are now over. Club football is where the real fun is, and the Bhoys are preparing to begin the defence of their double in a few weeks.

Johnston will be a critical player in that quest once again for Rodgers. For now, the 25-year-old will enjoy some rest ahead of coming back into contention at Parkhead.
