Read MoreCeltic mentioned on official AFL website; the Ange Postecoglou effect being felt far and wide
Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou may rule Scottish football right now but his presence is being appreciated in other sports too, judging by a recent AFL article.
The Australian Football League (Aussie rules) official website has a long-read up right now which highlights the influence of Postecoglou.
The story centres around AFL side Hawthorn and their preparations for the new season under coach Sam Mitchell.
And it turns out that a visit to Mitchell’s compatriot Postecoglou was part of the pre-season planning.
A small paragraph found deep in the piece reads: “Personal development is also a significant part of the performance plan. Everyone in the room is implored to do this during the year.
“It is what led Mitchell to visit Scottish football giants Celtic during his time away from the club during the off-season, where he spent time observing and learning from former Socceroos manager Ange Postecoglou in Glasgow.”
If personal development is what Mitchell wanted to explore then he could hardly have picked a better guest.
Postecoglou and Celtic are on a journey. It’s something he regularly says to his players. It’s why we all feel part of something major that is only getting bigger with every passing week.
Mitchell is just the latest guest to visit Lennoxtown. Last season, we spoke to former A League manager Ernie Merrick after his visit to Scotland. It was the same story in our chat with Paul Lambert.
Occasionally you catch wind of stories like this, but the majority of Lennoxtown visitors probably go un-reported.
It will be interesting to see how Hawthorn do in the AFL this season. They finished 13th last year. Ange may soon have them as title contenders.
