Celtic midfielder James McCarthy is back in contention for a place in Ange Postecoglou’s matchday squad after rejoining team training this morning.

McCarthy missed the trip to Warsaw mid-week after falling ill but has now shaken off that issue to once again work alongside his teammates at Lennoxtown.

Postecoglou shared the news at his pre-match press conference today, also stating that there are no fresh injury concerns coming out of the fixture against the Ukrainians.

However, as expected, Carl Starfelt remains in the treatment room and won’t be available until after the international break.

Injuries haven’t been much of an issue for Celtic in the early stages of the season, in stark contrast to difficult periods in 2021/22.

That’s been due both to a larger squad allowing for less reliance on individuals as well as a much lighter mid-week to weekend schedule.

Once players return from international duty, however, the intensity will ramp up again. In fact, Celtic won’t have a single free mid-week until after the World Cup in November and December.

Pleasing then that we’re going into this weekend’s fixture in such good shape.

If we can get through the Paisley test unscathed and the national break without issues, then Postecoglou and the squad are set up perfectly for the challenges ahead.
