Celtic and all other Premiership clubs will attend a referee summit at Hampden today.

A number of issues will be discussed including the implementation of VAR and controversial decisions, according to the Daily Record.

Celtic were on the end of some horrendous VAR errors this season, with many surroundings penalties not being given for seemingly obvious handballs.

The process undertaken to arrive at VAR decisions was also a source of frustration for former Hoops boss Ange Postecoglou.

A number of ideas will be discussed at the SFA summit, including the possibility of VAR communications being recorded and released to the public one day.

“We will consider everything,” SFA chief executive Ian Maxwell said, as reported by the Daily Record.

“Knowledge and understanding is a big point for me. Media, fans, broadcasters to understand why the decisions are being made as they are and why it’s taking as long as it is.

“I saw the PGMOL [England] released some audio from previous matches in order to educate and help people understand.

“I’m not saying we’re going to get there straight away. They had a voice coach employed for 12 months to make sure the referees know what they’re saying is going to be heard and get them thinking about that.”

It is encouraging to hear that Maxwell is at least open to more transparency. The lack of it has arguably been one of the biggest issues so far with Scotland’s implementation of VAR.

Fans have no idea how decisions are being reached or why some of them are taking so long.

Releasing the audio would at least give fans more insight, even if they still don’t agree with the decision.

One thing’s for sure, VAR needs to improve in Scottish football next season.
