Celtic pre-season return timeline for busy international players
It has been a busy few weeks for those of Ange Postecoglou’s squad who spent time on international duty.
Thirteen players in total rounded off the 2021/22 campaign with their nations at senior and under-21s levels.
Stars such as Giorgos Giakoumakis and Liel Abada had a significant impact on their international teams. Whilst both Callum McGregor and Josip Juranovic played every single minute of Scotland and Croatia’s four fixtures.
With pre-season just around the corner, some of the squad are expected to return to Lennoxtown on the week beginning the 27th of June. Those initially arriving will have had more of an extended break than others.
Players such as Joe Hart, Reo Hatate and James Forrest have had the chance to rest and recuperate ahead of preparations for next season. After their break, the Celtic trio are amongst those expected to report back to pre-season before those who were on international duty.
For those who spent June with their countries, it appears they will have a little more time to rest before coming back into the fold for the training camp in Austria in the first week of July.
Speaking in the aftermath of Croatia’s brilliant 1-0 victory over World Cup holders France, Celtic defender Josip Juranovic shared he has more time off before getting back to club duties.
The 26-year-old previously opened up about tired he was due to featuring in all four games and stated that he ‘can’t wait’ for the opportunity to rest up after a busy campaign for both club and country.
He said [Sport Klub]: “We will see everything after the break, we will try to rest well, and in September, we will do everything in our power. I have a rest for two weeks, I can’t wait,” Juranovic concluded.
A well-earned rest for Celtic’s international stars
It’s been a tough, long season for a lot of these players.
With the international break now coming to an end, the next few weeks will provide those involved with a good chance to rest ahead of another hectic season to come.
The majority of Postecoglou’s squad will be going through their first full pre-season under the Celtic manager this summer, so it is bound to be another gruelling few weeks when they return at the beginning of July.
They are more likely to feature in the later pre-season friendlies though, with the initial fixtures on the 6th and 9th of next month probably coming too soon for some of them.
They will be raring to go when they do make their return and we can’t wait to see them in action.
