Celtic supporters on the Season Ticket waiting list have been given a well-timed boost.

The club have announced [Celtic FC] that on the 9th of July, those who have been waiting for their season book will find out if they have an opportunity. The waiting lists have been jam-packed for years, and with sales “off the scale good” according to CEO Dom McKay, we’ll get an idea of just how promising those sales have truly been.

The club claimed last season that there were 17,000 on the waiting list. This season, we don’t quite know how many are patiently waiting to see if they can nab a season book for 21-22.

Celtic said [Celtic FC]:

“Following last week’s 2021/22 Season Ticket renewal deadline, we’d like to say thank you to everyone who renewed and pledged their support to the Club for the campaign ahead. The response has been overwhelming!

“A Season Ticket is the only way to ensure you won’t miss a minute as the Celts look to make a winning start under new manager Ange Postecoglou. And with such strong renewal numbers the Waiting List for 2021/22 Season Tickets is the only place for supporters to try and secure a place at Paradise.

“Any available Season Tickets for the 2021/22 Season will begin to be offered to Waiting List members from Friday, July 9.

“The Waiting List works in date order, so the sooner you join the 2021/22 Season Ticket Waiting List, the higher your priority will be when a Season Ticket becomes available.”

Any speculation about a drop in season ticket sales has been grossly misguided

If you’ve ever been to Celtic Park, you’ll know we’re often loudest after we’ve just conceded.

Speaking personally, I’ve been to watch Scotland games, matches in Ireland, and so on. But never have I heard a noise quite like when Celtic have just let a goal in. The idea of a 12th man is overstated, to the point of cliché. But when the Bhoys need a lift from the crowd, we supply it in our thousands.

So, it sort of stands to reason that season ticket uptake is just as frenzied. Even after a season of utter calamity. From the players’ perspective, they haven’t had that lift when things haven’t gone the team’s way. There’s nothing scientific to suggest that the Hoops would have done better with fans in attendance. Equally, with a crowd as loud as ours, it couldn’t have hindered us, that’s for sure.

That’s why this is so encouraging. And it’s good to see some actual clarity for supporters on the waiting list. The 9th of July will be a huge day for supporters who want to be a regular fixture in the famous atmosphere.
