Celtic record yet another positive case; Dubai cost continues to build

Celtic have today announced yet another positive Covid test on the day their self-isolating player sand management returned.

Last week, Chris Jullien recorded a positive case that the club alerted to the authorities. It was then revealed that 16 players and coaching staff members needed to self-isolate as close contacts.

From those contacts, another positive case has been identified. It clearly isn’t Neil Lennon or his assistant John Kennedy. Celtic have confirmed that’s a player who wasn’t involved against Hibernian or Livingston over the last week.

It’s clear the player, who has yet to be named, was one who was in self-isolation. First off as is always the case, it’s important to wish said player the very best. Hopefully, he makes a swift recovery and can get himself back available for the first team as soon as possible.

But it’s just yet another price to pay for the Dubai fiasco. Neil Lennon called it “remarkable” that only one player two players have tested positive (PLZ Soccer). This was clearly in a bid to try and big up how well Celtic have followed protocols.

However, again it doesn’t matter. Yes, it’s a touch relieving that there aren’t five or six more missing. Make no mistake this could’ve been a lot worse. But it’s still yet another unnecessary blow that’s come from the Dubai trip. Goodness knows how valuable the player is.

It remains to be seen in the coming days whether Celtic announce the player who recorded a positive test today. But if it’s the likes of Kristoffer Ajer, Odsonne Edouard, or Leigh Griffiths, Celtic fans will be rolling their eyes again.
