Celtic have had their say after Spanish giants Athletic Club invited goalkeepers around the world to take part in a symbolic kit change this weekend.

The La Liga side, often known as Athletic Bilbao, are honouring legendary keeper Jose Angel Iribar who famously played in a black shirt.

They have invited goalkeepers to play in black this weekend, to celebrate Iribar turning 80 yesterday.

Celtic quoted the tweet just before 5pm on Thursday, saying: “Great gesture. In support of #Iribar80.” They included images of both Joe Hart and Ben Siegrist wearing black.

It will be interesting to see if Hart is wearing black when the Hoops take on St. Mirren on Sunday.

The club do seem to be hinting at a symbolic kit change from the yellow Hart has worn for most of this season.

However, the reality in Paisley may be a little different. Given that the home side kit is mostly black, you would have to doubt whether we would get away with a similar looking keeper’s jersey.

Hart did wear a yellow kit in our 2-0 defeat in Paisley earlier this season. Most people would expect that to be the case this weekend too.

Maybe the tweet was simply Celtic’s way of acknowledging Bilbao’s invite.

The clubs are on very good terms, with Bilbao honouring iconic Celtic captain Billy McNeill shortly after his death.

Maybe a pre-season friendly will be in the offing some time soon.
