There is a striker vacancy open at Celtic and Brendan Rodgers will be looking to fill it by the end of January.
Kyogo Furuhashi’s departure from Celtic was a surprise because he decided to leave and join Rennes midway through the season.
The Japan star departs as a Celtic legend and a player who will be dearly missed because he was a goalscorer of the highest quality.
When a section of the fanbase feels that you are the best since Henrik Larsson, then you have truly done something special, but now it’s time for someone to fill that void.
Yes, supporters will want the powers that be to provide Rodgers with a striker via the transfer market, but he also has two of them on his books.
Adam Idah is the big-money purchase from the summer, although he has struggled since his loan spell, and then there is rising youngster Johnny Kenny.
Johnny Kenny told if he has a chance to replace Kyogo Furuhashi at Celtic
Rodgers shared that Kyogo wanted to leave Celtic ‘months ago’, so it makes even more sense that Kenny was recalled from his loan spell at Shamrock Rovers.
Kenny made his debut against Ross County in January and was an unused substitute for the 3-3 draw against Dundee, last time out in the Premiership.
But Scott Allan made it clear that he can’t be Kyogo’s replacement and the 21-year-old’s job is to try and cement himself into the squad for next season, as he told Clyde 1 Superscoreboard.

“No, no, no, not at this moment in time,” responded Allan on Kenny replacing Kyogo. “Whether he can become an integral part of the Celtic squad, come pre-season and into next year, that will be entirely up to him.
“But if you are looking for a polished all-round striker and the way Kyogo was. It’s very hard to replace. Johnny Kenny, for me, won’t be that guy. I think he will be more of an impact player if he does stay at Celtic past the window.”
Another loan for Kenny?
When Kyogo was still at Celtic, Rodgers did speak about wanting three strikers and you wonder if that is still the case.
If a new goalscorer is brought in, then it will reduce Kenny’s game time, despite Rodgers’ three-striker wish, so is he better off going out on loan?
Allan explained how there will be ‘a lot of teams’ looking to secure the Irishman’s talents if Celtic do put him back out in the deep waters.
On Kenny going out on loan: “I think there will be a lot of teams looking to try and get him on loan, or try to do a bit of business on him because of how well his spell was at Shamrock Rovers,” added Allan.
“That, obviously now, with Kyogo going out and (if) somebody (doesn’t) come in, it might give him more game time.”
