The spotlight is now going to be firmly on Adam Idah at Celtic.
Kyogo Furuhashi is nearing his Celtic exit and Brendan Rodgers is now going to be without his main striker.
It doesn’t help matters that it comes days after Celtic’s trip to Villa Park, but at least, in that sense, knockout football in the Champions League has been secured.
Even though big money was paid for Idah in the summer – after his successful loan spell last season – Kyogo was still the main man.
Yes, the powers that be at Parkhead could bring in another striker before the January transfer window slams shut, on top of Jota returning to Glasgow.
But, until then, you expect Idah to lead the line, especially with Daizen Maeda suspended for the game against Aston Villa on Wednesday night.
Adam Idah defended by Go Radio presenter as Kyogo Furuhashi nears Celtic exit
Idah hasn’t scored in the Premiership since November, so hopefully, his luck will turn around sooner rather than later.
But, on Go Radio, the Republic of Ireland star was labelled a ‘plank of wood’ by a disgruntled Celtic supporter, regarding his performances.
Presenter Paul Cooney was quick to shut down the Celtic fan by defending Idah and stating ‘you are going over the top’.

“I am gutted for Kyogo going, why did they let him go,” asked a Celtic fan. “I think Rodgers has pushed him out. I don’t think Kyogo was the same player under Rodgers, as he was under Ange Postecoglou. For me, Adam Idah is a plank of wood.”
Cooney responded: “Nah, listen, you are going over the top about Idah. If he wasn’t there the other night, you wouldn’t have got the points.
“What about the run of Adam Idah? What about the strength? What about the guile? Sure, it came off the defender. No question. But you are over the top about Adam Idah. About Kyogo, how can you say that? Maybe Brendan Rodgers has someone else coming in, but Kyogo is in great form the other night. There is still a spring about him.”
Idah’s record at Celtic this season
Perhaps with Kyogo leaving, that extra responsibility will work wonders for Idah, rather than weighing him down.
The simple reason is that he now knows that he will be starting on a regular basis, including against Aston Villa, then away at Motherwell and the rearranged game against Dundee on February 5.
Idah has been rated under seven by WhoScored for his performances for Celtic this season, but you suspect that will get much better sooner rather than later.
