Celtic will launch a new viewing deck for disabled supporters in the Lisbon Lions stand tomorrow, with captain Callum McGregor and Lisbon Lion Jim Craig involved to cut the ribbon.
Dubbed ‘View 67’, the new section is the second deck to open to disabled supporters, with the first located in the north-west corner of the stadium and named after club icon Tommy Burns.
There will be space for 16 wheelchair users and their companions. The elevated platform was constructed after consultation with the Celtic Disabled Supporters’ Association.
Kevin Mackin, chairman of the CDSA, said: “On behalf of the Celtic Disabled Supporters Association, I am delighted to see the opening of the new wheelchair platform in the Lisbon Lions Stand, which has space for 16 wheelchair users and companions.
“The CDSA has worked closely with Celtic Football Club to make this initiative happen, and we have been advised every step of the way. Celtic were receptive to our suggestions to get the platform right, and our members can now enjoy a fantastic matchday experience.
“The opening of the platform demonstrates the commitment Celtic has to its disabled supporters and the club has to be congratulated.”
It comes after a new bar area was opened to supporters earlier in the season. Continued Celtic Park improvements are high on the agenda for many fans.
Some of these issues were raised at the recent AGM, while a recent survey conducted by 67 Hail Hail showed that the condition of Main Stand facilities and the lack of a ticket swap arrangement were both potential improvements that supporters care about when it comes to attending games.
With the potential of a new standing section coming as well, Celtic have plenty to tackle on a growing list that can further improve the matchday experience.
The opening of a new disability viewing deck is just the latest part of that and well done to the club for putting it all together in the right way.
