Celtic can gain information on Lawrence Shankland with the Jonathan Afolabi loan.

The Hoops striker has joined Shankland’s former club Dunfermline until the end of the season. [club site]

Afolabi now competes directly against Celtic transfer target Shankland who is high flying at Dundee United.

If the Irishman matches the Scotsman by the end of the season, it solves potential transfer questions.

The winner, of course in all this, is the club and it should be a welcome contest.

Chance for Jonathan Afolabi to prove himself against Lawrence Shankland

If the Hoops are in for Shankland, then it will only put the likes of Afolabi down the champions’ pecking order.

This is a good chance to show Neil Lennon that the Irish youth is just as good as the on form striker.

Shankland did pretty well during his short spell at the Pars in 2014, scoring seven goals in 13 league appearances.

Now, Shankland is arguably the most sought after Scottish striker in the SPFL system.

Afolabi’s Dunfermline move can be the beginning of the making like him to prove he can replicate Shankland’s success.

Potential changes in the striker position in the summer could see some of the young guns promoted.

The brass ring is there to be got at with several players vying for the one starting spot in the team.

Afolabi can save the Scottish champions a fair bit of money if he becomes a success in the Championship.

Fans will be more than happy to let one of their own reach the top rather than paying for an outsider.

Everyone will be hoping Afolabi joins the list of Hoops temporary departures that have gone on to make a career in the Celtic first team.
