One Celtic star says that joining the Hoops was the best decision of his career.

Playing for Celtic is a lifelong dream for many, with the likes of Wayne Rooney even wishing they had joined at some stage of their career.

Not everyone gets the chance to do so, but for Auston Trusty, choosing to come to Glasgow is a choice he has never looked back on.

Auston Trusty says joining Celtic was the ‘best decision ever’

Trusty has been at Celtic since joining from Sheffield United in 2024 and has become a mainstay in the first-team.

A season-ending injury to Cameron Carter-Vickers has seen him become a regular starter and the USMNT defender knew that joining the Bhoys would help his career.

He told the Daily Record: “When I had the chance to come here, that’s why I took full advantage of it, because the eyes I get here, and the player I can become being a Celtic player, the mindset, the trophies, just being a Celtic player in general… it can really propel you into the next situation.

“I know sometimes people think it’s not as calculated, but as a player you really have to think about this stuff and put yourself in the best position to then go ahead and achieve your goals. That’s why coming to Celtic was really the best decision ever for me.”

Auston Trusty hopes to impress at the 2026 World Cup

Part of the allure of coming to Celtic was the chance to put himself in the spotlight for the World Cup.

It looks like Trusty will be selected for the World Cup by Mauricio Pochettino and he is hoping that he and his teammates can inspire more people in the US to play football.

“It’s going to be really big,” he added.

“I think it’ll be a big catalyst for the United States for football and soccer just to grow and for your little kids to maybe not pick American football, maybe not pick basketball, they pick soccer.

“That’s the identity they want to have and that’s the sport they want to choose to go for. I think the last World Cup was in 1994 and I wasn’t even born yet.

“I’ve seen the U.S. really embrace the World Cup, embrace football to its fullest. So in today’s world with all the technology and all that, everything on social media, I really think it will be amazing.”
