Celtic go into a massive weekend perhaps a little light on personnel in key areas, but absolutely full of confidence and form.

With 31 from the last 33 points available in the Scottish Premiership, the Bhoys are demonstrating they are title contenders this season.

Now the team has the change lay down a real marker of tangible progress with a Scottish League Cup final win over Hibernian.

Celtic captain speaks to 67 Hail Hail about Ange Postecoglou

I got the chance to speak to captain Callum McGregor today for 67 Hail Hail and wanted to get his thoughts on the first six months so far under Ange Postecoglou and how he has changed the fortunes of Celtic.

McGregor told me: “In the summer things were a little bit all over the place, a bit chaotic but what the manager’s done since he came in is really solidified the group.

“He identified the players he wanted and we managed to get them in over a difficult period with Covid in the summer and all the isolation rules. What we’ve got is a really good group of people too in terms of just really good human beings who want to play football, want to help, want to work – that just makes the whole thing a lot easier, especially when you’re trying to build a new team.

“Already the football is getting rave reviews, everyone’s enjoying it. It’s a joy to play in but that comes with enjoying your football.

“The manager’s always spoken about when you’re a 10-year-old kid you want to attack, get on the ball and make things happen. That’s what he’s done: given us real freedom to go and express ourselves and you can see that in the performances.”

This approach to messaging and football from Postecoglou may sound a little simple, but it’s tapping into something in these Celtic players.

Last season you could see the weight of expectation and pressure heavy on their shoulders, even after the title race was done. They simply weren’t enjoying their future.

The Australian has given them a new lease of life and brought footballers to the club that gel with the mentality and outlook of the winners that were here.

When McGregor speaks so passionately about the direction under the manager, you can’t help but dream about what Celtic can achieve from here.
