Liverpool defender Andy Robertson has discussed falling in love with Celtic and what it meant to him as a young Academy player wearing the shirt, in a new interview with BT Sport.

BT Sport have an ongoing series in which they invite professionals to go through a rail of football kits that define their life and career.

For Robertson, that of course starts with Celtic. Not only did he play for the club as a youngster before being let go, he is a passionate supporter of the club and has been since a young age.

Andy Robertson adores Celtic

Speaking to BT, the defender said: “You’re brought into a family. My Mum and Dad had Celtic season tickets before I was born. I didn’t want a choice, it was quite easy for me.

“Up in Scotland it’s quite heavily Celtic and Rangers. My side was definitely Celtic. I loved watching them when I was a wee boy.

“Henrik Larsson was my guy. He was a huge part of why I used to go out in the back garden and play football. That was our life. He’s one of the greatest players to play for Celtic. It was a really good team back then with Stiliyan Petrov and Paul Lambert, players like that.

“The day you get told you’re going to sign for the U10s you get the tracksuit, the bag, the strips. I couldn’t take it off. I used to wear it in the street. That was the best part, you felt like a proper player, just walking about in Celtic clothes all the time.”

Later, Robertson was asked to pick his two favourite kits from the rack. Nautrally one of them was the one he wore in the successful Champions League Final with Liverpool.

The other? None other than the famous ‘bumblebee’ Celtic kit from the 1996/97 season.

Robertson loves it so much that he wants the club to bring it back too, stating: “I don’t think it’s even close. You’ve got to go bumblebee. I love this strip.

“Honestly, if Celtic brought out another one I’d buy it straight away. They brought out an old school one but it wasn’t quite the same.

“This one was a huge part of my growing up. Everyone had this strip.”

So there you go Celtic, if you want a viral picture of Andy Robertson wearing a Hoops strip doing the rounds then an Adidas bumblebee kit like the 96/97 effort is the way to go!
