Celtic stars react to thrashing Motherwell on social media as Bhoys extend Premiership gap

Celtic extended the gap over Rangers to 12 points at the top of the Scottish Premiership table with a thumping 4-0 victory over Motherwell at Parkhead yesterday.

Despite a frustrating opening half, Arne Engels broke the deadlock before the break after Aston Oxborough’s foul on Hyunjun Yang in the area.

Daizen Maeda, Nicolas Kuhn and Reo Hatate rounded off another dominant Celtic triumph, which has sent them further clear of Rangers in the Scottish Premiership after their rivals’ loss to St Mirren.

At the other end, another clean sheet for Kasper Schmeichel has taken his tally to 17 in 27 since joining on a free transfer during the summer window.

Without further ado, let’s see how the veteran Denmark international and his teammates reacted to Celtic’s victory over Motherwell on social media.

Kasper Schmeichel and Adam Idah react to Celtic victory

Taking to Instagram, Schmeichel made it clear that there was nowhere else he would’ve rather been on Boxing Day with a simple message to supporters after another impressive display.

Accompanying a selection of snaps from the affair, he wrote: “Perfect way to spend Boxing Day. Merry Christmas everyone.”

Admittedly, Schmeichel didn’t have very much to do in a routine display, but his clean distribution and handling are always a solid foundation to build from the back.

Similarly, Adam Idah celebrated the victory over Motherwell on Instagram by sharing his delight at another three points during the festive season.

Despite not getting himself on the scoresheet, the Corkonian led the line well and wrote in the aftermath of proceedings: “W! Happy Christmas all.”

Hopefully, the Republic of Ireland international can gain plenty of minutes over the next few weeks as he continues to stake his claim for a starting slot.

Daizen Maeda’s humorous social media post

Although there is a serious and formal aspect to post-match social media posts, Daizen Maeda took the opportunity to provide a little humour after his excellent display against Motherwell.

Arguably, the Japan star could’ve been awarded a penalty after stooping to head home in the first half before Callum Slattery appeared to collide with his face.

Of course, VAR deemed the challenge to be unworthy of a spot-kick, but Maeda’s message that read ‘Merry Christmas’ with a rocket and wincing face emoji illustrates he has been able to laugh it off.

Celtic went on to claim a dominant victory in the end, so the incident will be consigned to history once the dust settles.
