Celtic supporters have hit back at Middlesbrough with some home truths after the English Championship side sent a cheeky tweet about Riley McGree tonight.
The club have officially announced the attacking midfielder as their latest January signing, after confirmed interest from Celtic in the player.
Their social media admin has gotten themselves a little bit too excited, unable to resist a dig at Celtic in the announcement post on Twitter.
Middlesbrough, whose only major honour is a solitary English League Cup, are undoubtedly happy with their purchase tonight but if their biggest highlight of the season is pipping Celtic to a signing then that tells a story.
Ange Postecoglou spoke about the interest in McGree earlier this week, but from his comments, it seems that the Australian international was never really interested in coming into the manager’s intense Celtic project.
It’s crucial that Postecoglou identifies players up for the fight in Glasgow and who want to be here. So, while it would have been nice to add another attacking midfielder to the squad, it wasn’t to be in this case.
“I won’t sell Celtic to anyone” | Ange’s emphatic transfer message
It’s fair to say the tweet is causing a bit of stir tonight as Celtic, Middlesbrough and yes, predictably, Rangers fans all get in on the mix with posts and patter of their own.
For Celtic fans, it seems to be mostly be focused on the small-time nature of Boro and perhaps the less than noble reasons they have been picked by a player. Money talks, some would say.
These supporters have taken to Twitter to share their thoughts on it all…
