The transfer value of Celtic linked midfielder Jose Cifuentes may have just taken a boost after he was called up to the senior Ecuador squad for the first time.
Back in early July, the 20-year-old was touted for a move to Glasgow with the Scotsman reporting that the Hoops were leading a race with English champions Manchester City.
Neil Lennon also confirmed that Cifuentes was on Celtic’s radar however the trail has gone cold in recent weeks.
And if Celtic still want the America De Quito man then they may have to stump up more cash than before. That’s after the midfielder was called up for his country’s upcoming FIFA fixtures.
Cifuentes was named in the 24 man squad alongside the likes of Enner Valencia and Cristian Ramirez.

What did Cifuentes say about potential Celtic move?
Football Scotland ran some quotes from the youngster from shortly after he was linked with a move to Scotland.
“I think that [as you say] it’s a rumour, and as for any contact [with Celtic] my agent is handling that,” he said. “I understand that there is interest but nothing concrete.
“I want to have the opportunity to leave for Europe. Celtic is a big club with everything that they play for. I had heard of the club before [the interest started].”
The Hoops could probably do with another midfielder to give them extra competition in the middle of the park. Questions are now being asked of Scott Brown’s ability to play every week while Olivier Ntcham can blow hot and cold.
We’ll need to wait and see whether Cifuentes is the man to fill that void.
