Celtic team news: Ange Postecoglou issues promising injury update as Greg Taylor remains out

Celtic foursome Sead Haksabanovic, Anthony Ralston, Stephen Welsh and James McCarthy all returned to training at Lennoxtown yesterday after varying time out injured.

The return of Haksabanovic and Ralston is particularly pertinent to Ange Postecoglou’s first-team options, though neither is likely to start against Kilmarnock in Saturday’s semi-final at Hampden.

Both have been out for a number of weeks, having already made plenty of appearances between them this term.

Celtic have picked up no new injuries coming out of last week’s 2-0 win over Kilmarnock, the manager confirmed in a media conference on Friday.

However, Greg Taylor remains sidelined with a hamstring injury that has a return timescale of weeks rather than months.

It all means that Postecoglou has a strong squad with options in almost every position heading into today’s Hampden occasion.

Injuries were a huge problem throughout 2021/22 but a bigger squad and more consistent rotation has largely protected Celtic’s players from the muscle injuries that threatened to derail our title bid last term.

A similar line-up to last weekend’s win over Killie is now likely, thought we know Postecoglou sometimes likes to spring a surprise and there were effective players left out of last week’s starting eleven.
