Celtic striker Hyeongyu Oh ended the league season on a massive high, scoring his sixth and seventh goals for the club against Aberdeen in a 5-0 rout.
In truth, the result wasn’t in doubt by the time Oh found his way to goal, but his brace rounded off a superb day in Paradise and gave fans more hope he can play a big role for Celtic in the future.
His first came from a classy Jota cross on the left flank, with the South Korean forward getting up well to guide the ball into the far corner past a helpless Kelle Roos. Then, late on, Oh came alive again, capitalising on Jota’s rebounded free-kick to stick the ball in the back of the net for a second time.

Hyeongyu Oh lays foundation for strong Celtic future
Oh has managed his seven goals in Celtic colours from just 561 minutes of action, meaning he’s registering a goal every 80 minutes on average. That’s an excellent rate and bodes well for his first full season at the club after the summer.
His efforts are making headlines in his homeland too, with a number of outlets carrying match reports of Celtic’s trophy day joy.
Daily Sports Hankook called it a ‘spectacular finale’ and praised Oh’s positioning and finishing ability as he scored multiple goals in a Celtic match for the first time.
SPOTV also noted Oh’s ‘multi-goal explosion’ and have been left heartened by the forward’s continued exposure to football in Europe, despite not being a starter. They recognised the end of the match was Oh’s ‘stage’ and observed that he is expected to win a third trophy this season next week against Inverness Caledonian Thistle.
Inter Football carried an in-depth match report, acknowledging Celtic’s ‘goal feast’ and that Oh ended up being the ‘main character’ towards the end of the game after the exploits of Kyogo Furuhashi.
Oh is well-placed for a strong second year in the Hoops when the initial schedule of matches will be busy and he gets plenty of starting opportunities. Ange Postecoglou hasn’t been able to rotate the team much in recent months, but the 22-year-old should be one of the beneficiaries of that policy in 2023/24.
The initial signs are positive and with plenty of improvement in his game to come, club and national team supporters can all be excited about his potential.
