As the search for Celtic’s new manager continues, journalist David Friel was asked what he knew about the rumours that the Bhoys are looking at McKenna again this year.

David Friel tells Celtic Kieran McKenna is ‘happy’ at Ipswich
Celtic looked at McKenna as a potential manager just before they re-hired Brendan Rodgers in the summer of 2023.
And now that it appears the Englishman is a priority for Celtic, Friel explains how hard it will be for the Parkhead board to tempt McKenna to leave the Tractor Boys.
Friel told Sky Sports, “I just think Kieran McKenna ticks a lot of boxes for Celtic.
“He’s 39, Martin O’Neill yesterday spoke about Celtic wanting a young coach to drive them forward. He is a guy who’s had huge success at Ipswich, okay, they got relegated last year, but I think his reputation is intact.
“He had a great grounding at Spurs, and then Manchester United as well. I think for what Celtic, you want someone to come in and really grab the club by the scruff of the neck again, take them forward.
“Someone with ambition, I think Kieran McKenna ticks a lot of boxes for that one
“But it’s whether Celtic could get him out of Ipswich. I know that he’s happy there. He’s rebuffed interest in the past from the likes of Chelsea and Brighton.
“He’s on a long contract, I think he’s on a lucrative contract, so I think there’s a bit of work there for Celtic to get him out of Ipswich, but he’s clearly a person of interest.”
