Celtic told only two new signings, aside from Kieran Tierney, will make an ‘immediate impact’

There is one guarantee from Celtic’s summer transfer window, and that’s what Kieran Tierney will bring to the table.

If Tierney keeps fit, then many wearing the famous green and white colours are in no doubt that he will produce the goods.

But who else from Celtic’s 2025 summer transfer window are fans really confident about, because let’s be honest, it’s not exactly been uplifting.

In total, seven new players have arrived this summer, with many of the new faces coming through the doors being inexperienced and project-like signings.

Benjamin Nygren and Shin Yamada’s possible ‘immediate impact’ at Celtic

Benjamin Nygren has played a fair chunk of pre-season, in the middle of the park, and he has looked good, whilst Shin Yamada first appeared against Al-Ahli over the weekend.

Andy Halliday thinks, from all of the new faces that have been signed by Celtic, and putting aside Tierney, then he thinks only Nygren and Yamada will make an ‘immediate impact.’

Speaking on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard, Halliday explained why Ross Doohan, Callum Osmand, and even Hayato Inamura aren’t what the fans want right now.

“You look at it, at the face of it, Celtic have made six signings,” said Halliday. “But Kieran Tierney, we already knew he was in the door in January.

“You look at Ross Doohan, who is pretty much a training goalkeeper and a third-choice goalkeeper. The boy Osmand looks as if he is also a kind of development player for the future.

“Brendan Rodgers’ comments about Inamura seem as though that was the same, a development player for the future.

“So, you look at only Yamada and Nygren, who are going to make an immediate impact, shall we say. You feel it leaves Celtic a wee bit short.”

What Celtic requires before the 2025 summer transfer window slams shut

You wonder if Celtic securing Champions League qualification will perhaps push the board to spend the money required before the window slams shut on September 1.

There are still many areas that need to be filled, and Halliday named the key areas where more bodies are required.

“You feel there is going to be a real strong pursuit for a number nine,” added Halliday. “A couple in the wider areas.

“That left-back slot, if Kieran Tierney continues the injury issues he has had over the years, and that sort of left centre-half spot, because there were a lot of people frustrated with Liam Scales or Auston Trusty, or whoever would partner Cameron Carter-Vickers.”
