There will be some Celtic fans suggesting that things can’t get worse this summer because of how things have panned out so far.
It’s not too long until Celtic celebrate Flag Day when they host St Mirren on August 3, and Brendan Rodgers has another Premiership title to defend.
But you sense there isn’t that uplifting feeling a new campaign brings, and the sense is that the 2025 summer transfer market has played a huge part in that.
Celtic haven’t been as ambitious as, not only the fans would have wanted, but also the man in the dugout.
And there is only one way they could make it worse…

‘Huge loss’ if Celtic sold Daizen Maeda
Daizen Maeda was the PFA Player of the Year last season, and rightly so, as he stole the show during the second half of the campaign, including netting 33 goals in all competitions.
But Barry Ferguson, who came up against Maeda as Rangers’ interim manager last term, warned that it would be a ‘huge loss’ if he were to be sold this summer.
Speaking on Go Radio, Ferguson gave his flowers to the Japan star, and explained how Maeda ‘impressed me’ when he got to see him in action first hand.
Paul Cooney: “If Maeda were to go, it would kind of be unthinkable for Celtic.”
Ferguson responded: “That would be a huge loss. I don’t know how long he has got left. A year or two. But Maeda is the big one for Celtic. He is the game changer.
“We mentioned last week, when you actually come up close and you actually watch him at the ground level, he is a machine, and he impressed me.
“I always thought he was really good. But, even on the left, he has played predominantly most of his football on the left, but when he went through the middle for Celtic, I thought he was excellent.”
Brentford’s interest in Maeda
The problem here is that, if the money is put on the table, then Celtic are always open to selling, and you fear the same could happen here.
The only issue is that, not only have the powers that be not improved the squad as fans would have liked, but they surely can’t let Maeda go at such short notice.
But, whether Celtic fans like it or not, Brentford, who have lost their manager Thomas Frank this summer, as well as key players such as Bryan Mbeumo to Manchester United, have money in the bank and expressed interest in signing Maeda.
