Kris Boyd is far from the voice of reason.
The former Rangers striker-turned mainstay pundit seems to enjoy being part of an argument, regardless of whether he’s right or wrong.
And when it comes to Brendan Rodgers and Celtic, he seems to enjoy going against the grain.
Rodgers’ comments in the press on Friday have generated much conversation throughout Scottish football. But not many people have refused to see the validity in his words.
Step in, Mr. Boyd, who thinks that the Hoops boss is simply using it as an opportunity to deflect the blame away from himself for the side’s failure to qualify for the Champions League football.
Brendan Rodgers is making excuses says Kris Boyd in bizarre claim
Rodgers has been scathing of Celtic’s performance in the disastrous defeat to Kairat Almaty, particularly in the first leg.
The Parkhead boss said to the media that he had told his players that they had wasted a half when they went in goalless – making his frustrations clear.

But writing in his column for the Scottish Sun, Boyd wasn’t having it. He said: “All the fury is being directed at the board, when so much of the blame for the Champions League exit should be pinned on the manager and his players.
“It puzzles me how a manager who has spent north of £60 million since returning to Celtic since 2023 gets such an easy ride from the support.
“It’s a myth to say that Rodgers hasn’t been backed, and the squad he has at his disposal was more than good enough to win that tie. No matter how much Rodgers moans about the timing of the signings, I’m just not buying his excuses.”
Someone might want to tell Boyd how net spend works in football.
Brendan Rodgers has earned respect at Celtic
There is no doubting that Celtic managers have to earn respect in their role, and it doesn’t come all at once.
But Rodgers hasn’t just done that once – he’s done it twice. Given the symmetry between his two spells in terms of transfer controversy, it makes complete sense why so many fans are siding with him.
Everyone remembers the infamous John McGinn pursuit of 2018, which ended in very public comments which didn’t reflect well on Celtic.
This was a big factor in his decision to depart for Leicester – but after returning to Celtic Park this time around, Rodgers wants to put his love for the club before his personal ambitions.
