Celtic youngster Adam Montgomery returns to Aberdeen training after injury

Young Celtic loanee Adam Montgomery has made a return to training after being out with a hamstring injury since the end of February.

The 19-year old featured semi-regularly for Ange Postecoglou’s side on the left-hand side in the first half of the season, playing 18 times.

However, with Greg Taylor nailing down the left-back role, Postecoglou chose to loan the youngster out to fellow Scottish Premiership side Aberdeen.

The loan spell hasn’t entirely gone to plan for Montgomery. He started off earning regular minutes under Stephen Glass before the former Watford and Hibernian player was sacked from his role at Pittodrie.

To make things worse, on the arrival of new boss Jim Goodwin, Montgomery picked up an injury which would him out for several weeks.

Ahead of the season’s final five games, though, the left-sided player has returned to training, taking to his Instagram stories to confirm so.

Could another loan spell be on the cards for Montgomery?

Postecoglou and his coaching staff seemed to be big fans of the academy graduate during the first half of the season, handing him regular minutes, including on the European stage.

So, this loan spell felt like a good opportunity for him to go and get some minutes and experience elsewhere. But Montgomery hasn’t had much luck on that front.

It will be interesting to see what his future is come the summer. Of course, he will remain as a Hoops player. But will he be in Postecoglou’s plans, or is he detained for another loan spell elsewhere?

This may not have been a question had Montgomery not had injury issues in the second half of the season. I am sure both the player and Postecoglou will be keen to see some more minutes in his legs come next year.

It’s a big decision that will have to be made to best serve his development.
