Celtic goalkeeper Tobi Oluwayemi has been called up to the England U19s squad for matches against Armenia, Portugal and Republic of Ireland later this month.
The England group are bidding to reach this summer’s U19s Euros and play all three sides as part of the qualification process.
Elite round qualifying will begin against the Republic of Ireland at Walsall on Wednesday 23 March, before a trip to Rotherham United to face Armenia on Saturday 26 March. They then take on Portugal at Chesterfield on Tuesday 29 March.
Oluwayemi, 18, already has caps at U16, U17 and U18 levels and has made two appearances at this age group too, in matches against France and Andorra.
The Celtic B star will be competing alongside Matthew Cox of Brentford and Teddy Sharman-Lowe of Chelsea for a spot in Ian Foster’s starting eleven.
Other notable inclusions in the England squad include Luke Chambers of Liverpool, Juventus’ Sam Iling-Junior and Liam Delap of Manchester City.
Oluwayemi is one of the brightest prospects currently coming through the Celtic youth set-up and has been a consistent performer in the Scottish Lowland Football League this season.
He is highly-rated at Lennoxtown and was even included in UEFA Europa League squads earlier this season, including trips abroad with Ange Postecoglou and the Bhoys.
In fact, Postecoglou is such a fan that he has been called up on a permanent basis to first-team training.
Ange said last month: “Tobi is an exciting young goalkeeper. We’ve kept tabs on him, obviously he was playing with the B Team, but I feel like it’s time we expose him to that first-team environment, particularly at training.

“He’s a pretty lucky young man, because he’s got an ex-England number 1, and a guy who’s reached the very top as a goalkeeper training with him every day. It’s going to be priceless. I didn’t want to waste that opportunity, so we brought him up to the first team environment, he’ll be training with us regularly. And hopefully [we’ll be] watching him develop over the next couple of years.”
Definitely one to watch!
