Celtic reacted to going behind at Motherwell to record a comeback victory at Fir Park to move two points behind Rangers in the Scottish Premiership table.

The Bhoys started off slow and were deservedly trailing at the break courtesy of a curled strike from Blair Spittal before the interval.

In response to his side’s lacklustre first half, Brendan Rodgers brought on Adam Idah in place of Kyogo Furuhashi, with the latter’s introduction having the desired impact in a much-improved second-half performance from the Bhoys.

Idah levelled the scoring with a brilliant header from a Greg Taylor cross not long after the break before going on to net a dramatic winner in stoppage time following some intelligent approach play from Hyunjun Yang and Alistair Johnston.

Luis Palma slotted home from point-blank range to put proceedings beyond doubt on a day Celtic reminded everyone of their title-winning credentials, which they will hope to continue illustrating when Dundee visit Parkhead on Wednesday.

Brendan Rodgers came out swinging post-match, telling media officials in the wake of securing an important three points: “There’s a story being written about this club, but we will write our own story.”

Talk of yesterday being a turning point may be premature based on evidence from this campaign; however, the jubilation that emanated from Celtic fans and players following our late triumph showed that a collective togetherness is present at the club despite recent suggestions to the contrary.

Alistair Johnston takes to Instagram after late Celtic victory

Canada international Johnston enjoyed a steady first game back since returning from a facial fracture sustained in the Hoops’ 2-1 victory over Hibernian earlier this month.

According to Fotmob, the 25-year-old was his side’s joint-best performer against Motherwell alongside match-winner Idah, earning an average match rating of 8.7/10 for his exploits

Johnston has now taken to Instagram, sharing a hilarious post showing himself and Cameron Carter-Vickers in a heap on the floor while celebrating Idah’s 94th-minute goal to put Celtic 2-1 in front.

Proving a fitting caption, the Vancouver-born man wrote the words ‘No context football’ followed by a laughing emoji and an emoji blowing a kiss.

Celtic fans will know all about the emotion that can emerge from a late winner, and it is great to see the squad react in such a fashion as they continue to hunt for a domestic double.

Sticking together is going to be key in their final 11 Scottish Premiership matches for the Bhoys to deliver success in Rodgers’ first season back north of the border.
