With the domestic season over, attention now turns to this summer’s World Cup.

While several Celtic stars are set to feature at the upcoming World Cup, the tournament arguably means more to Auston Trusty than anyone else in the squad.

With the United States co-hosting the massive event, the defender has the rare, career-defining opportunity to shine on the world’s biggest stage right on home soil.

On Sunday, in preparation for the big stage, USMNT beat Senegal 3-2 in a friendly encounter, with Trusty featuring in the second half and getting plaudits from CBS Sports.

“Trusty, I thought was pretty solid,” said Jimmy Conrad. “He didn’t have to do much. I give him a six (out of ten).”

Auston Trusty makes positive preparations for this summer’s World Cup

It was a mixed season for Trusty at Celtic, with all the chaos and changes not helping matters.

While a lot of it was off the field. The season-ending injury to Cameron Carter-Vickers also didn’t help matters, as his fellow countryman missed out on that World Cup ticket as a result.

Nonetheless, following USMNT’s win over Senegal, there was perhaps a hint that Trusty won’t start his nation’s World Cup opener against Paraguay on June 13.

That’s because Mauricio Pochettino started with several big names during the opening 45 minutes, before making ten changes at half-time, including bringing Trusty into the fold.

Sadio Mane did score his second just after the restart, but as the CBS Sports panel stated, which consisted of former USMNT internationals, it was a pretty comfortable game for Celtic’s domestic double winner.

Jimmy Conrad: ‘Let’s talk about the second half team; everyone got equal minutes, all things considered.”

“Trusty, I thought was pretty solid. He didn’t have to do much. I give him a six.”

Marcelo Balboa: “He didn’t have to do anything. He didn’t have to do much.”

Conrad: “He did have a really nice play in a one-v-one situation with (Iliman) Ndiaye.”
