Auston Trusty has been named in the USA’s World Cup squad for 2026.

But his Celtic teammate Cameron Carter-Vickers misses out through injury, despite reports hinting that he could’ve made an unlikely return.

It’s been more than seven months since Carter-Vickers’ Achilles injury sustained against Sturm Graz left his chances of making the tournament in jeopardy, so the news will be no surprise to him.

Trusty, on the other hand, will go into the tournament with plenty of momentum after a perfect end to the season with Celtic.

Why do you think Auston Trusty has played his best football under Martin O’Neill this season?

After players were informed of whether they had made the squad or not, the squad was quickly pieced together by the media.

The 26-man roster has been named in full by The Guardian, with Trusty’s inclusion confirmed.

Trusty played 90 minutes in the USA’s most recent friendly against Portugal in Atlanta, though he has just six senior caps overall.

Ex-Celtic loanee Timothy Weah, who has played for Lille, Juventus and now Marseille since his loan spell in Glasgow, is also part of the squad.

Tanner Tessmann, linked with Celtic two years ago, is the headline absence after being expected to recover from an injury sustained at Lyon.

Fellow ex-Celtic target Mark McKenzie is a direct competitor to Trusty for the centre-back position after being named. He will be coached by Jens Berthel Askou at Toulouse next season.

Kieran Tierney and Anthony Ralston are in Scotland’s squad for what will be their first World Cup for 28 years, though James Forrest has missed out.

Sebastian Tounekti, Benjamin Nygren and Daizen Maeda will all be competing against each other for their respective nations in Group F.

Hyunjun Yang is in the South Korea squad, whilst Alistair Johnston will be representing Canada at a home tournament.
