Celtic are reportedly set to take on French Ligue 1 side Stade Rennes in a friendly fixture this December during a winter training camp visit to Portugal [Ouest France].

Whilst domestic and European action will grind to a halt throughout November and December, Ange Postecoglou’s side are preparing for a busier winter schedule.

After our fixture against Ross County on the 12th of November, the Bhoys will jet off to participate in the Sydney Super Cup, facing Sydney FC and English Premier League side Everton.

Several Celtic players are expected to miss out on the trip to the other side of the globe due to their involvement in the Qatar 2022 World Cup this winter.

However, Celtic’s visit to Sydney next month aren’t the only winter plans in place for Ange Postecoglou’s squad.

The Hoops boss recently revealed that upon their return from his homeland, his squad will be given a week off before returning to training and jetting off to Portugal for a warm weather winter training camp.

Postecoglou and his players will be looking to get ready and up to speed for another busy run of fixtures when they return to domestic action in Scotland on the 17th of December.

Not only will they spend their time training in Portugal, but it has also been revealed by French media outlet Ouest France that the Bhoys will also be involved in friendly action.

A report states that Celtic will face off against French Ligue 1 side Stade Rennes on the 9th of December during their visit to the south of Portugal.

The match is expected to take place behind closed doors, with both teams facing off for the third time in recent years after our last meeting with Rennes in the Europa League during the 2019/20 season.

Expect further friendly fixtures to follow as Celtic prepare for 2nd half of Scottish Premiership season.

You would expect that Celtic’s friendly outing in December against Rennes isn’t the final fixture we will participate in during our visit to Portugal.

Club officials are likely to have been busy organising further games for Ange Postecoglou’s squad to be involved in, with several other clubs also set to make the trip to Europe for similar preparations.

The Celtic boss will be looking to get his side prepared for another busy run of domestic fixtures, which will include games against Aberdeen, Hibernian and Glasgow rivals Rangers, quickly upon our return.

So, the time spent on the training ground and in friendly action could prove crucial in order to get players back up to speed ahead of a potentially crucial period in the season.
