Celtic’s best players of the 2025/26 season so far have been revealed, with a surprise contender taking top spot.

On the whole, it has been a disastrous season for the Hoops as they find themselves six points behind Hearts and with six defeats from their last eight games to their name.

Wilfried Nancy is facing calls to be sacked as a result, but there are maybe some players who can hold their heads higher than others for the way they have performed across the season.

With that, Sofascore have listed the top five performing Hoops players from this current campaign.

Kieran Tierney takes top spot for Celtic average ratings

In a surprising twist of fate, Kieran Tierney is the player with the highest average rating across the 2025/26 season

Despite his stop-start return to his boyhood club due to injury, the full-back has managed an average rating of 7.35 over the games played so far.

He is closely followed by Auston Trusty with a rating of 7.34. He was exceptional under Martin O’Neill but has looked a shadow of himself since Nancy took the reins.

Summer arrival Benjamin Nygren is in third place, with some perhaps arguing that he should have top spot due to being the club’s goal contributor with eight goals and two assists.

Callum McGregor and Liam Scales complete the list meaning that there is no place for Daizen Maeda, who has been nowhere near the levels he showed last season.

Kieran Tierney can still improve

Even though the data suggests that he has improved, everyone in the stands knows that there is more to come from the boyhood fan.

Nancy sees Tierney as a key figure and has picked him over Scales in the left centre-back role.

He’s more suited to going forward, but the loss of pace due to recurring injuries is evident, but his defensive work is still top notch.

Having more competent defenders beside him would also help, which is why January is so important.
