67 Hail Hail ranks the worst loan signings in Celtic history after the disappointment of Jahmai Simpson-Pusey.

After arriving on loan from Manchester City, Simpson-Pusey will now spend the rest of the season at Koln after failing to make a mark with the Hoops.

He made one appearance for the first-team, playing just over an hour in the 4-0 win against Kilmarnock.

His time won’t be remembered fondly and the 19-year-old will be a great pub quiz question for forgotten Celtic players.

Is he the worst loan signing of all time? We’re not sure. But, in the meantime, here are some of the loans that you’d rather forget.

Shane Duffy

Any mention of that 2019/2020 season is enough to send shivers down someone’s spine.

Shane Duffy arrived living out every boyhood Celtic fans’ dream as he got to walk out in the green and white.

Endless errors, costly mistakes and a loss of confidence all played a role in the spiral as the Republic of Ireland international was part of the side that Rangers stopped from winning 10 league titles in a row.

Alexander Tonev

In need of more game time, Aston Villa allowed Alexander Tonev to join the Hoops on loan for the season.

Despite joining in August he had to wait a whole month to make his debut for the Bhoys. He was involved in controversy after being accused of racially abusing Aberdeen defender Shay Logan and was suspended for seven games as a result.

Tonev made 13 appearances in all competitions but will never be remembered well.

Stephane Henchoz

Stephane Henchoz snubbed Rangers for Celtic in January 2005 so there was understandably excitement around the defender’s signature.

After previously playing a big part for Liverpool, things didn’t go to plan as he instead earned the nickname ‘Carthorse’.

Appearances were few and far between as he was consigned to a place on the bench for the majority of his six-month stay.
