Many Celtic fans make the pilgrimage over to Parkhead from Ireland weekly and will also have a vested interest in their national team.

Liam Scales, Mikey Johnston and Bosun Lawal all represent the Boys in Green at international level. Celtic have also been heavily steeped in Irish identity since their inception, creating a special connection between the club and the Emerald Isle.

Regarding their national team, the Republic of Ireland has been on an eight-month search for a new manager after Stephen Kenny departed in November 2023.

John O’Shea was left to steady the ship in the meantime; however, the Celtic trio mentioned now know who their international boss for the forthcoming Nations League campaign will be.

Heimir Hallgrimsson appointed Republic of Ireland manager

Earlier today, Ireland Football announced on X that Heimir Hallgrimsson has taken over as the new manager of the Irish national team, bringing the curtain down on a prolonged search for Kenny’s successor.

Most recently in charge of Jamaica, the 57-year-old is revered for his time as Iceland’s head coach, where he masterminded their famous victory over England and took them to their first-ever World Cup finals in 2018.

Carrying relevance to Celtic, it will be intriguing to see how Scales, Johnston and Lawal fit into his plans moving forward. He is likely to implement his own style at the Aviva Stadium; it remains to be seen who will be identified as key assets to fulfil that prophecy.

As a side note, should negotiations for the Bhoys to land Adam Idah from Norwich City reach a positive conclusion, he will also be expected to play a big part under his leadership.

International football will soon hit the backburner as the club game takes hold of our consciousness; nevertheless, it is always interesting to see who Celtic players will be working with when featuring for their country.
