Celtic's kick off against Rangers is getting good reactions
Celtic silenced the doubters yesterday by beating Rangers by two goals at Ibrox.
A makeshift back four aided the team to their first win in a while at their rivals’ stomping ground.
Now the dust is settling, it’s one forward, Odsonne Edouard, who is rightfully getting all the plaudits.
However, fans are still dithering on his first piece of action in the match.
Bizarre Celtic kick off by Odsonne Edouard
The old saying is the derby matches are usually won at the start, sometimes even before kick off.
The norm is to kick the ball back into your own half and keep possession and settle the early nerves.
Yesterday proves that it’s not always going to be the case when it comes to Celtic and Rangers games.
Fans will have noticed that Edouard launched the ball as closest to the Rangers corner flag as he could. It won his opponents a throw-in but it allowed Celtic to push right up the pitch. The Bhoys were also unlucky not to score from the proceeding throw in, but for some strong defending by the Gers.
This kick off was arguably Neil Lennon’s way of showing that his side weren’t for backing down.
Fans with a longer memory will know, though, that they have seen this done against them before.
Celtic copying a tactic from previous opponent
Supporters only need to look to the previous Sunday to see a team do it against Celtic.
Craig Levein’s Hearts started their match at Parkhead in a similar manner.
Eyebrows will have been raised by some in the 60,000 in attendance and maybe thought nothing of it.
Even the Edinburgh journalists were on it like a flash:
Chuckled at Neil Lennon defence of Celtic kick off. "People might laugh but we wanted to play in their half…." And the stick poor Craig Levein got for same… 😂

It just goes to show that perhaps there may be something in perfecting Craig Levein’s wheel.
But just how did the fans react to Celtic’s new forward way of thinking before kick off?
Celtic fans react to kick off stunt
Some of the Hoops faithful took to Twitter to react to the kick off routine by Edouard.
Hearts booted the ball into touch straight from kick off and I tweeted that Levein was a tactical dinosaur.
Today, Celtic booted the ball into touch from kick off and now Neil Lennon is now an undisputed master tactician. No question about it.
Don't @ me.

That kick off from Celtic would’nt have been for the purists but was very clever from Neil Lennon. Never let Rangers get on the front foot like the last 2 games at ibrox! 👋 @CelticFC

Neil Lennon deserves full credit for that victory. From the kick off going straight into the corner to quell the crowd, he got everything right. #Celtic

Never in my 30+ years watching football have I seen a team with the Kick-Off, boot it directly into touch at the opposition corner-flag. Interesting. Certainly seemed to set Celtic off on the front foot, but still very weird to see #RANCEL

Actually thought the kick off by Celtic was very smart. Immediately got them up the pitch and they won the ball back almost straight away.

See when Celtic kicked off and did a Craig Levien rugby kick to the corner flag, my heart sank🤦🏻♂️!
But it turned out for the best, pressured them from that point onwards 👏🏻🍀👍🏻
