Celtic’s last five results after international breaks

Celtic face Dundee after a two-week wait after defeat at Tannadice.

The final mid-season international break of the season is behind us. All eyes are now on Martin O’Neill, and whether he can deliver success in the league, cup or both.

Defeat at Dens Park would be a fourth loss in four matches in Dundee for Celtic this season, an unwanted record to be avoided.

So is the fact that we are heading there after a break good or bad news?

Celtic’s mixed recent performances after international breaks

St Mirren 0-1 Celtic

Last time out in November, O’Neill was in his first interim spell and took a confident Celtic team for a Saturday night kick-off in Paisley.

Frankly, the performance that day was dreadful. As has been a trend this season, the Hoops looked bereft of creativity and cheated death defensively on more than one occasion.

However, they were saved by Callum McGregor’s incredible winner, which was literally the last kick of the game.

Dundee 2-0 Celtic

So this one bodes well…

Another atrocious performance. Celtic’s hapless showing on their a last trip to Dens led Brendan Rodgers to utter his infamous Honda Civic analogy.

He gave up the keys to the car a week later, truly throwing Celtic into disarray.

Kilmarnock 1-2 Celtic

Not to sound miserable, but this was another win achieved despite a poor performance. Killie came close to going 2-1 up just minutes before Kelechi Iheanacho scored the winner from the spot on his debut.

It was also a Hoops debut for Sebastian Tounekti and Michel-Ange Balikwisha (whoever that is).

Celtic 3-0 Hearts

Back to the rosy world that was the 2024-25 season, when Celtic were actually quite a good team.

Jota scored one of his last goals before the long-term injury that has kept him out of action for almost a year at this point. Daizen Maeda scored a brace.

Hearts 1-4 Celtic

How hard would it be now to imagine Celtic running out 4-1 winners at Tynecastle!?

A fantastic goal by Kyogo Furuhashi and a stellar performance by Nicolas Kuhn made this an enjoyable afternoon.
